UCanMakeItIfYouTry - Let Go of the Thoughts That Don't Make You Strong

Not every thought that enters your mind deserves a seat at the table. Karen Salmansohn reminds us that the thoughts we hold onto shape the life we live -- and we have the power to choose which ones stay.

Let Go of the Thoughts That Don't Make You Strong

-- Karen Salmansohn

Your mind is busy. It always has been.

Thoughts arrive constantly -- about the past, the future, what someone said, what you should have done, what might go wrong, what you are not, what you will never be. They come uninvited, and many of them stay far longer than they should.

Karen Salmansohn offers a deceptively simple but profoundly powerful instruction: Let go of the thoughts that don't make you strong.

Not all thoughts. Not silence. Not emptiness.

Just the ones that are draining you.

Your Thoughts Are Not Facts

One of the most important things you can learn about your own mind is this: a thought is not a truth.

Just because your mind produces a thought does not mean that thought is accurate, helpful, or worth your attention. The mind generates thousands of thoughts every day -- and a significant number of them are fear-based, self-critical, or rooted in old stories that no longer reflect who you are.

The thought that says I am not good enough is not a fact. It is a habit. A pattern. A voice that learned to speak loudly because it went unchallenged for too long.

You do not have to believe everything you think.

What Weakening Thoughts Look Like

Thoughts that do not make you strong tend to share certain qualities. They are often repetitive -- the same worry cycling through your mind on a loop. They are often focused on what you cannot control. They shrink your sense of possibility. They remind you of your failures more than your growth. They whisper that you are less than, behind, or not enough.

These thoughts are not your enemies. They are often your mind's misguided attempt to protect you -- to keep you from disappointment, rejection, or failure by lowering your expectations before life can.

But protection that keeps you small is not really protection at all. It is a cage.

The Practice of Letting Go

Letting go of weakening thoughts is not about suppression. You do not force them out or pretend they are not there. That approach tends to make them louder.

Instead, you notice them. You name them. You say, with calm clarity: This thought is not making me stronger. I am choosing to release it.

And then you redirect. You turn your attention -- gently but deliberately -- toward a thought that builds rather than diminishes. A thought that reminds you of your resilience. A thought that opens a door instead of closing one.

This is a practice. It takes repetition. But every time you choose a strengthening thought over a weakening one, you are rewiring the way your mind works. You are building a new habit -- one that serves your life instead of limiting it.

What Becomes Possible

When you stop feeding the thoughts that drain you, something shifts.

You have more energy. More clarity. More room for the ideas, connections, and possibilities that were always there but hard to see through the noise.

You begin to notice what you are capable of -- not what you are afraid of. You start to move through your days with a steadiness that does not depend on everything going perfectly. You become, in the truest sense, stronger.

Not because life got easier. But because your mind became your ally instead of your obstacle.

You Can Make It

Today, pay attention to the thoughts that visit you. Not to judge them -- just to notice. And when one arrives that does not make you stronger, you have permission to let it go.

You do not have to carry every thought that crosses your mind. You get to choose which ones you hold.

Choose the ones that make you strong.
